Coming to IISc Campus- A breif guide
After many hurdles, here is the time where you are planning to come to the campus. This online semester was challenging for most people, and finally, we are shifting to the offline mode, which will be better by a bit.
Coming to the IISc campus as a student is a feeling that words can’t describe. It looks like all that the heart was yearning for is here. The campus seems so soothing and heart-melting. It feels hard work paid off, and it was worth it. You will enter the campus and will be directed to the choksi hall, where you will do some paperwork, so better to have a pen with you. Then you will go to the health center where your RT-PCR will be checked. I don’t know whether they will ask you about those adult boosters or not. They will also ask for the vaccinations certificates of both doses. Done with the health center, you will now go to the hostel office where you need to mail them the consolidated pdf of receipt of Rs 45000, offer letter, temporary ID, and performa. Here now, you will be allotted hostel and mess. While opting for the mess, you have four options viz.
Mess A(South Indian veg)
Mess B(North Indian Non- veg)
Mess C(South Indian Non-veg)
Mess D(North Indian veg).
For boys, Hostels A, B, C, NBH are only of Ph.D. rest are for M.tech and UGs. You can opt for a room that is vacant (call your friends inside to find one), This will happen if there is no lottery system, and even later on, you can also change hostels. Girls have better-maintained hostels than boys. When you are allotted a room. You now need a mattress, pillow, bed sheets where you can lay down. Bangalore is a little colder for most of us, so you need a good blanket; oh, I forgot to tell you Bangalore is costlier too, so better to bring whatever you can get from your home. You need a bucket, a mug, a towel, and maybe an extension cord if you have multiple electronic devices.
You can also get all these items inside the campus or outside in a nearby market. If you have an older laptop, you may need a 5ghz dual-band wifi adapter to access high-speed internet. You should also have a water bottle and a tumbler with you. Don’t forget to bring your documents. Then you will take a walk to shop for daily care items. You will be exploring different parts of campus, having video calls with friends and family and showing them the campus, taking pictures and videos, and putting them online. You will need more things you will eventually get, like a bicycle that you can buy new or get a second-hand one. You can join the FB group “sell and buy @IISc” to do such transactions. Here comes the final part, where the race for the next semester will begin again. Luckily this time, everyone will see each other suffering which will mitigate pain.
Waiting for you guys.
Happy and safe journey.
